Detour - 80 miles
Bug Bites - hundreds
Spiders - thousands
Beatiful Brides - 1
Photographs - AMAZING!
Andrea and I wanted to do her Bridals at the Salt Flats. Well...neither one of us realized how far out they were. So we didn't make it; we turned around after 40 miles and headed back to the Great Salt Lake State Park marina where we planned on getting sunset shots on the rocks. So she changes into her wedding gown (with the help of her sister and coordinator) in the marina parking lot. Some old guy almost wrecked his bike while staring at her getting ready...that probably shouldn't make me laugh, but it did. Then I was tracked down by the lot attendant who wanted to make sure I paid my entrance fee (which, by the way, must be paid even if you're just driving through the marina parking lot). Finally we raced to the rocks so she could climb on the and we could get some shots before the sun left us. We got close to the rocks and Oh. My. Goodness. I have never seen so many spiders and I hope I never do again! Everywhere you looked were enormous webs and huge, ominous looking spiders. I am getting the heeby-jeebies now just thinking about them. So climbing on the rocks was out, especially for Andrea and her little cutie, Alizae. We got a few shots on the lookout platform then headed down to the water in the hopes that the spiders wouldn't be so bad by the lake. Well...they were. And down by the water these little tiny bugs that flew in swarms that looked like black clouds joined the spiders. But we braved them (and fed them, appparently), found a big flat cement slab with no spiders and got some beautiful photographs of Andrea, Alizae and the sunset. We had hoped for more but I'm happy with the ones we did get.
And, Andrea, don't forget I will still go out to the Salt Flat with you some time. We can do a "trash the dress" session after the wedding :)
Here are some photographs that are sticking out to me now (at 12:10am). The rest will be up in your gallery when I have them finished.
